My engine is burning, today I'm gonna' fly
My treasure is calling from a clear blue sky
I open the throttle with one mile to go
My destination somewhere the law would never go

Faith in the wind and bound to the ground
Only the brave are allowed

Daring the Devil to show me mercy
Suicide angel is calling to me
A moment of thrill or eternity
Reckless abandon or destiny
I just wanna' fly

I leave the ground and I'm weightless
Breathless
The ether welcomes me like a lover
There's a freedom in letting go
No return...
Mistress of fortune, hand me over

Oh my God, I must be dreaming
The sirens are gone, and I'm still breathing
Those fools could only watch
That old trussel made a perfect launch

Perfect synergy of man and machine
Leather, chrome, and wheels, a lovely thing
Birds eye view of that deadly ravine
My guardian angel's an outlaw with wings

I'm cruising down a lonely forgotten road
I'll be meeting my love with a mountain of gold
My brothers are counting the spoils of the day
I'm laughing 'cause I led the law the wrong way

Faith in the wind and bound to the ground
Lady luck look at me now

Daring the Devil to show me mercy
Suicide angel is calling to me
A moment of thrill or eternity
Reckless abandon or destiny
I just wanna' fly

I love everything about this - the rich varied sound, the energy, the musicianship. The only thing that bothers me a bit is that it moves too slowly for the chase it describes. You kind of feel that the cops can't fail to catch him. Those long drawn out vocal notes that work great in the middle section where he is flying and you can imagine the intensity of the feeling slowing down time, feel like a foot on the brake before you get to that part.

That guitar break is amazing. I also love the way it really picks up energy right after that. Great stuff!

Yeah', you're right... this was a miserably failed collaborative effort over at some other site. So, I quickly re-wrote some lyrics to fit the music and the result is pretty obvious lol 🤣Β

The whole story... not that it matters lol

The challenge was to write a song with a plot twist and key change. However, My "Collab Partner", who was strictly "lyrics only" and couldn't even sing, decided that she would be in complete charge of the lyrics. So, she wrote a complete poem about a skydiver who hits the ground. It wasn't a bad poem, I've certainly read worse, and of course it had no music value whatsoever, but I had to question, "where's the twist?" To which my collaborative poet partner answered, "He dies..."

So, I quickly go to work parsing and re-purposing lines until I produce an actual singable lyric, with a rough recording, about a guy who jumps from an airplane at the very same moment Armageddon hits the earth! Clever right?

My partner and I begin to argue about the difference between poetry and music. She's not at all happy about not being in control of the "songwriting process", and declares her unwillingness to take part in any further collaboration.

Well, since the collaborative challenge was public and open to the entire site, and, in fact, she was the MOD who issued the challenge, I decided to publicly air our grievance so that "I" wouldn't be perceived as the uncooperative asshole who backed out... Well, unfortunately, that "airing" post was immediately removed with some laughably taunting PMs and warnings about my conduct. Also, this was not the first time I had been "censored" on that site.

But, here's where things really get interesting...

The very next day someone new arrives on site, touting her credentials as an established and published writer/poet, with an interest in learning how to play guitar and write music. As if her timely arrival weren't enough to goad me, she immediately begins to engage others by "quoting" my X-collab partner and publicly continuing the "poetry vs music" argument. Coincidence? Billshit!

This story would be amusing enough as is... BUT... then this new arrival begins to post some of her work for critique. Initially, her subject matter is grossly liberal and non-Christian, but her approach to writing is so consistently ill-conceived and juvenile, all I can do is laugh and call into question her validity as a writer without being truly insulting!

Ultimately, the site censor cop politely asks me to admit my guilt and apologize to this sweet, innocent, new "up and coming" artist... I, of course, question "HIS" validity in the very same manner, and am now "BANNED" from said site lol...

I see now why great bands never last πŸ™‚
