I'm having trouble with a story song. I hope you guys and gals are helpful. Some other places were not but I won't mention those forums or message boards.

I hope we can get along better.

Welcome to the Junction, BallroomDancer. Nice to have you here. You will have noticed that it took a little while for your first post to appear. This is because first posts need moderation. It's an anti-spam thing. Future posts should appear straight away, although sometimes the second post also needs moderation - not quite sure why.

Story Songs generally run into the Third Verse Curse; the writer can't think of a way to end the Story. They often resort to a Bridge, with its Melody different from the Melody of the Verse and Chorus, a brief component just to renew listener interest, enabling them to do a final giving of the Chorus to end.
It 'works', but often leaves the Story incomplete as a Story. Stories are comprised of a 'beginning', a 'middle', and an 'end'.
Good luck with it, or, as they say in show business, 'Break a leg!'

Wow! That British mode of posting a date threw me for a moment. I thought, "Did we really all miss this back in July, the 7th month, and are only seeing it now?" But the Brits post day-month-year instead of month-day-year. Whew! I thought I'd been deducted by aliens and lost some time! I think my parents are aliens. Every year they talk about deducting me on their 1040 Tax Form, which I think is the name of their spaceship. They're both a little weird. I don't know where they get it. I turned out norm-norm-norma-normal-okay. Well, mostly.

So, Just for info only....

My user name Vet393..

Although I am a Navy Veteran, 75-81 HS9 squadron, the user name comes from something else...

I raced off-road motorcycle's for many years. My last Classes I raced in was the age classes, The Veterans class....+40/50/60 etc.

I was member of a forum and we had a young rider that was killed riding one day. He was respected in the community for his knowledge and skills as a young rider. So...

There was memorial race held each year on the anniversary of his death. If you raced in one of these you could use his Plate number on you user name...thus Vet393. Before that I was Vet912, as was my district assigned number.

I just wanted the history of the Vet user name is all. Peace!!

I just made another comment on another thread about these types of posts. People come onto these types of sites, post an "I am new here" post, a few people say hello, and then they are never heard from again. It's too bad, but people need to learn that anything musical, you get out of it what you put in. Hope they do show back up, but I have doubts.

Very good. Glad you're posting. But when you start something, make sure you continue a dialogue. Posting songs are just fine, part of the reason you and everyone is here. But the real value in these types are sites are sharing and learning from the experiences of others. Everyone has probably gone through things you haven't and vice versa. So sharing your own journey, and asking questions about other people's journeys are actually the more important part of social networking sites. Most people want to just put songs up, that is fine. But hundreds of thousands of songs are posted to the internet an hour. So building relationships BEYOND THE SONG, are the real things people should be concentrating on. Music is about relationships. Learning to develop and nurture them, building allies, for your music and for your overall journey is as important if not more.

If you have musical instruments you are trying to sell ,that is another reason to get to know people and what they need. Someone might be interested in what you have. As for me, GOD NO! LOL! With 13 guitars, (and I'm left handed" the last thing I will ever need is another guitar) but someone might have just that need. If you know them a little, it helps to find out if someone would. Also, everything about music is a "friend of a friend." Someone knows someone who knows someone who might need something. Same happens with writers, recording, publishers, producers, labels, and the general audience. Usually if you make those friends ships and relationships, it can help people know you and what you need.

It's difficult, I know. Everyone has lives to live, everyone have their own responsibilities and life can get in everyone's way. But that is why people that succeed are the ones who go the extra mile and make sure they have a lot of relationships, both in real life and online. So just try to keep that in mind.

My main reason for even saying things are that I believe in sites like this and how much they are needed. We're basically in a "ME ME ME LISTEN TO ME!" world where everyone wants to be into music one way or another. They either want to share their inner journey or demons, and might need some support from other people. Some people just want to make better art, and it helps with a better use of their time and effort if they know some shortcuts or can benefit from others. Some actually are trying for elements of the industry, be it performing a good gig, or actually trying to write songs professionally. These all can be benefitted from these type sites, even if it's just a friendly, sympathetic ear and pat on the back. It's all important.

I just watch these sites and when people come around, get something started and then nothing continues, it just sort of lays there. Activity is the only thing that will keep sites like this alive. This is actually a site continued from another site that just ended. Far too many of them just end. So just a desire to keep some dialogue going on, wherever it goes.

Glad you're still around. Hope you're getting some help you need.

Vet393, ( I wish people would post their names at the bottom so we know who we are talking to)

How has it been going for you? I know that I, Gavin, Japov, gave you some suggestions on one of your songs, did that help, confuse, give you some ideas? How is your situation going? Are you trying to move, downsize, etc.

The Nashville community has a lot of connections with the Veteran community here. A lot of Vets do music. I've worked with plenty, including a multi year Afganistan and Iraq vet, who was hit by four separate mortar attacks. There are a lot of Vets involved with our community. Hit writers also take time mentoring vets, and helping them write through their challenges. One of the Homeless missions actually has a coffee house, where they feature vets playing and recording their music. I donated a left handed guitar to them a few years ago.
Also, there are many former vets who are country, blues and rock artists and writers, so the Veteran/music community is a pretty big one. I would hope you could find some people who are sympathetic to your situation, and possibly build up a co-writing group that is comprised of vets. There are sure enough of them out there.

Well I hope that you are finding some help on whatever you are looking for. If you have some thoughts, comments, and can let us know about your particular journey, please do so, so we can find this site fulfilling the reason it exists in the first place.
