I bring this one out for an airing every New Year in memory of those who have filled past years with laughter and fond memories. This song would be best with each verse sung by a different person, probably none of them me, and everyone joining in on the chorus. But that's not going to happen, at least for now, so it's just me stumbling through it with a little bit of newly added harmony on the chorus. Probably best sung and listened to, if at all, while fairly drunk. We were when we recorded it. Happy New Year everyone!

OVERFLOWING

Many the night that we have sat around this table
The tales we’d tell and the jokes that we would crack.
I’d put my arm around you now if only I were able
If only I could have you back.

We’ll save a place for you, my friend
Whom we’re so proud of knowing
And though the chair be empty now
Our hearts are overflowing.

Many the glass that we have raised to one another
Laughing eyes across the foam
This was a party that we thought would last forever
I cried when you went home

We’ll raise a glass to you, my friend
It is our way of showing
That though the glass be empty now
Our hearts are overflowing.

This old room still may ring with our laughter
At the memories that you left behind
But in our hearts there’s a before and there’s an after
A clock we can’t rewind

We’ll tell our tales of you, my friend
Until it’s time for going
For laughter’s never empty when
Hearts are overflowing

Such an awesome lyric! I still think it should be done 3/4 time like a traditional Irish drinking song  🙂

I refuse to be Irish LOL!

Actually the Irish can drink to any rhythm, but I know what you mean. That strong first beat in a 3/4 lends itself to a a sing-along and a swing of the pint. Actually, it's not hard to sing through the lyric, putting it in a 3/4 time with the same basic melody. I think some of the conversational tone of the verses might be lost in the extra swing, but it's worth thinking about.

Hola @Gavin

it's a very nostalgic song and yes, it could sound as Irish folk at some moments... But not drunk hahahaha Sorry for Irish people, but this kind of joke is always present when talking...

I like very much the lyrics and the effect you have added to the voice sounds great, I think the voice sounds here with more presence, well sung and defined.

I love the chorus!!

Feliz 2020!!!

@moraamarolaloba

Thanks Mora. This vocal was actually recorded on a cheap old mic that since broke and was replaced by something better. Most of the time it sounded really bad, but for some reason, it worked better on this one.

Happy New Year Gavin. Not that I think it needs it (because it's gorgeous as is), but if you really want to have one person for each verse, I'd be happy to lend my voice for a verse if you can gather enough people for it.

Great, Dustin! I sent you a private message with a Dropbox link. Let me know if you have any difficulty downloading the file.

@jenny-stokes

Jen, I tried including you in the private message. Can you let me know if it worked. It's a bit confusing. Just in case, I'll email the link to you too.

Thanks guys!

Yup. Got it. Thanks Gavin. Renovations are moving at the snail pace that these things do, but progress is being made. I'll be back to singing in February and will get it to you then. This is going to be fun.    : )
