Hello everyone, very good to be here.
Gavin, have to give you great kudos for setting this up. Put your time, effort and money where your mouth is. (By the way, I would like to know if you will have a donation area to allow us to help you in any costs you incur. Don't go broke doing this.) I look forward to many new discussions and friends and will try to get people to gather here that I work with. For those who don't know me, I'm Marc-Alan Barnette, a 30 year pro writer, artist based out of Nashville, Tn. I'm always happy to talk the craft of songwriting, art of performance, and all aspects (not as much on the technical side please) that you might be interested in. Hope to meet you here. Thanks for having me.

Hello MAB my friend. SO glad you migrated to this site. I think it's going to be great. Hats off to Gavin. SUCH a great service to the songwriting community. My only fear is that I'm going to be sucked into Forum-Land and not be able to leave.  ?

Hey Jenny, glad you are here also. I think a good thing about this forum is that everyone can kind of have a hand in guiding it. Gavin is the boss and we will adhere to his rules. But I think since it is comprised of people who have known each other for a while, it will probably go a bit more smoothly than many when trolls and other unsavory people come along. It's nice to continue to relationships we have all cultivated over the years.Â
Marc-Alan Barnette
Amen to that, MAB. I'm going to need all the guidance I can get!
Ooo, look at that, I'm now an "Eminent Member" while you lot are still "Active Members."
What 26 posts will get you these days. lol

You are ALWAYS an eminent member. How are you doing Jenny? Good to hear you on that song you and Gavin did. Is there any thing you need some thoughts on? I had a girl here a month ago from New Zealand. I hope to bring her over here as it gets established.Â
Was just wondering how things are in your section of the world.

Ha! I'm doing very well, MAB. Thanks for listening to our song. Gav and I did that over a year ago now so it was a surprise to see it featured here, a really nice surprise. It'd be neat to have another person from NZ on board. Small country that we live in, I might just know her cousin's mother's cousin twice removed. Knowing you, I suspect she came away from the visit to Music City with her eyes wide open. ?Â
Big news in the NZ music industry is the review of the copyright legislation. It is SO good to know that the massive problems in the music and other creative industries are being taken seriously. More personally, I've been working on putting together a group of jazz musicians (20s, 30, and 40s sounds) to play a mix of covers and originals with the ultimate goal of doing some festivals and recording an EP of my work. Progress is intentionally slow because I've been doing a lot of work with John Evans with our Evans and Stokes project and enjoying myself immensely. Our following on Facebook seems to have plateaued at 3.5K (which is frustrating). If you have any words of wisdom about growing a social media presence that would be really appreciated. I don't feel drawn to it at all and avoid it as much as possible, but I know it's a necessity (especially since the Evans and Stokes project is entirely virtual...though a small group of fans from Egypt did ask us last year if we'd come play Cairo ? ? ? Ah. No. Sorry.).

Jenny,
I'm about to start a new thread about co-writing, finding and developing relationships, and we can cover things like building fan base and other things you want to speak of. I'd love to get your perspective on writing long distance and that relationship. On this thread I want to practice what I preach and once we get on a subject, we try to keep it to that subject as opposed to what so many things go into where it drifts tremendously. So let me set up a dialogue and we'll go from there. Please come over.

Roger that Marc. I'll head over soon.  🙂
