Japov, I don't get (and of course never have) understood what you are wanting me to say. You don't want to conform, don't. You don't have to. Man, I go through this all the time, and YOU never seem to EVER get it. You can do whatever you want or don't want. Period. End of discussion. 
YOU are the one that makes these claims as silly as they are, "I want to make millions, blah blah blah" but I want to whatever I want to do how I want to do it and the rest of the world has to CONFORM TO ME or they are IDIOTS for NOT CONFORMING TO ME AND ANNOINTING ME THEIR KING. You sound like every single Belmont and Berklee student I ever hear. That is all they want. And they think by being "non-conformist" is some badge of honor. Fine. Wear it. 

JUST STOP COMPLAINING. Geeze it's one big whine-athon. The only difference in a six week old puppy and an entitled songwriter is that the puppy eventually stops whining.  It just gets tremendously boring. 

CONFORM, or DON'T CONFORM. You have exactly the same chance as everybody. You can write your own music, do whatever you want, and put it on the social networking platforms. Same as everybody. Hope you make a million.

I meant that the internet allows collaborations between people on the other side of the world from each other. Much easier with internet! Distance is no hinderence.

I think some of the problem is that people are not spotting when someone is joking. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I assume JAPOV wasn't completely serious about "millions and millions of crazed fans worshipping at the altar of ME!!!! I WANT TO RULE THE WORLD!!!!!"

I think there's also some confusion about what kind of "mainstream" is being discussed. MAB is confining his remarks to mainstream music, whereas Tony's hair has once again ignited from sitting too close to the TV or radio as a reaction to the "mainstream media" in general - a topic of discussion which I intend to steer clear of.

Actually, I think MAB's posts make a lot of sense. Mainstream does it one way and if you want to ride that train, you have innovate within the fairly constricting rules. The chances of you riding that train to commercial success are slim. If you stay off that train, your freedom is greater. Seems to make sense to me. I like his take on niches as well. If you find your niche and exploit it, your commercial success might not be as great as some mainstream megastar, but you have a better chance of achieving some success, and with fewer resources.

That and i want songs that evoke some kind of emotional response. Laughter, anger, indignation, sorrow. There are still plenty of things to celebrate and protest. Things i see i disagree with.  I want to write about it all.
