"What's Today For"slow tempo tradional country Hag style
I woke up this mornin sun shinin in
took a look at myself 1 more time again
Should I go on pretending or face what's real
it's a long ways top of the mountain, but just as far down the hill
(chorus)
What's today for, if yesterday's gone
if all you went through ain't fit for the bone
You can roll it up and head back home
what's today for if yesterday's gone
Today I'll make a decision on what's it gonna be
and the toughest fight I'll have is me on me
Good things ain't easy if they're worth their salt
I'll tell the ghost of failures to go and get lost
(chorus)
What's today for, if yesterday's gone
if all you went through ain't fit for the bone
You can roll it up and head back home
what's today for if yesterday's gone
and if there's tomorrow I'll be steady as a stone
What does the expression "fit for the bone" mean? I've not encountered that before.
I may or may not be an enigma

I took it as "having a bone to pick" but not worth the effort....

no, it means starting something and then quitting, like preparing for a race buying the outfit needed , training etc then when race day comes you just quit , that's just 1 of many examples. I wrote it like that to be different from saying the same old normal way
Well, perhaps a little "same old" is what you need here.... From my reading, V2 answers the question. However, the chorus, specifically the "ain’t fit for the bone" line, still indicates a sense of worthlessness. So..... What’s the message here?
