This is the first song I’ve written in what I think was a while, but I guess that’s relative. I think it’s kind of neat, but I’m worried the narrative may not be clear enough to understand. Anyways here’s a take of it, the instrumental I posted before in tune topics, I think. Have a great day whoever may read this!
A Two-Bit Hack in a Cowboy Hat
Standing on the plate
Two strikes and I swing
And I miss
Batter up
Pull up to your place
First date and it’s late
Turn your cheek to my lips
And I miss
Pucker up
Driving too fast
Just trying not to crash
Flashing lights in my mirror
Growing fast
Buckle up
Always coming in last
Always bringing up the past
Need it all but what you have ain’t enough
Toughen up
I’m a two bit hack in a cowboy hat
I don’t know how
But I know I’ve got back
I might be in first
I might be in last
Don’t matter cuz where I come from
We only roam in packs
Another weekend over
Another curtain closed
Another burning shower
Another change of clothes
I’d be there in an hour
If I had somewhere to go
But I put my phone to fire
Just to try to see a ghost
The fat lady’s gone to sleep and
All the band’s gone back to drinking
Too loose words return to thinking
For the rest on our way home
Mountains melt to molehills
All the memories that hold still
Make no sense to me contextually
I’m just glad y’all had your fill
Cuz the joker’s coming back
Not sure the jester ever will
And I glanced into the mirror
As I made someway my own
And almost smiled thinking
About a girl I’d never known
Who never had to know
The jester’s never been alone
That when I leave he doesn’t go and roam
He’s just a puppet in a show
Like memories of fucked up dreams
The jester died when I awoke
So I held my phone to fire
Just to try to raise a ghost
I held my phone to fire
Just to try to raise a ghost
It gave me a little bit of hope
I’m just a two-bit hack in a cowboy hat
I don’t know where they are
But I know I’ve got back
And I’m not in first
And I’m not in last
I guess they’ve gone to roam in packs
Right now I’m home alone
And just a two-bit hack in a cowboy hat

Well....... I love the title 🙂

If I were to review your Face, I’d similarly note that I love the hat!

Sorry hombre, that was a fresh out of bed, eff this guy response. It’s not intended to have any commercial appeal as a song, but I’m comfortable that it conveys what I hoped it would. That said if ya wanna say you hate it, just say you hate it. My tolerance for passive aggression is low. That said, sorry for chirpin’ your face. It is, after all, just a face ?

Ha! Lolol............... Truth be told, the title is the only reason I listened!
"""I think it’s kind of neat, but I’m worried the narrative may not be clear enough to understand"""
On that note..... Yea, sorry, I don’t get it at all.... But I do truly admire your tenacity and willingness to just "put it out there"! I hope I'm reading you right and you actually do have a good sense of humor about all this. I’ve learned that a little "passive aggressiveness" goes a long way in today’s hyper sensitive politically correct world..... But I’m still brutally honest among friends 🙂

We’re all good buddy. I’m aware this sort of tune ain’t your cup of tea, so I’m not offended by that whatsoever. And on the tenacity thing, thanks! Learned a long time ago I can’t tell what’s good and not so my policy’s just toss everything I write out there and let someone else decide (hence the like 80 tracks I think I’ve uploaded this year... which are almost overwhelmingly filler).
As far as the brutal honesty thing, I get ya. As I always say, if I didn’t tell you when I hated it you’d never believe me when I say I like that one! Anyways, hope your week’s goin’ well buddy. No hard feelings here.
Cheers

Well now, hang on there a sec..... I still feel like you’re just blowing me off! And as far as "my cup of tea" is concerned, trust me.... you have no idea lol. How about telling us your motivation/inspiration behind this one and then perhaps we can offer better feedback. ?

Aw, damn it! Alright, ummm.... I guess to explain it I’m going to have to backpedal and admit I know it’s not my finest effort. The first verse/chorus isn’t specifically inspired by anything, just classic brooding crap. That part I actually like, lyrically. The part where it sort of flips vibes was inspired by post-music festival fatigue mixed w/ self-pity at learning a girl I was hitting it off with there is in a committed relationship :/ (frustrating stuff). Tbh I was feeling musically uninspired and stuck on both so I amalgamated them into one with an instrumental I’d written independently of them... so this song’s basically just Frankenstein, sewn together from the parts of old dead bodies 😛 I agree with you the title’s cool though! Btw one last time sorry for my dick comment this morning. Uncalled for and probably driven by my knowing the song kinda sucks. I always appreciate the feedback, even when it’s brutally honest. Cheers

You know, the cool thing about songwriting is that they can always be re-written! Since you’ve already "Frankensteined" this one lol, why not go ahead and write another verse about what just happened here?
Daily brooding
Two bit hack in a cowboy hat
met/lost girl
Two bit hack in a cowboy hat
told my story
Two bit hack in a cowboy hat
wrote this song
Two bit hack in a cowboy hat
Became Millionaire
Two bit hack in a cowboy hat ..... 🙂

Hahaha, you know what? I think I’ll do that. Haven’t written a song about writing a song in a while, and I think this one’s probably best to walk away from until something clicks on one of those lyric sets. Thanks again buddy, I think I needed someone to push me a bit to admit I’m not happy with it
