Time machine
Verse
She fills her glass with wine
And glances at the time.
She sighs, grabs a novel
To occupy her mind.
Chorus
She doesn’t want to fall asleep.
She fears the time machine.
She’s thirteen, young and innocent
Woken from a dream.
She doesn’t want to fall asleep.
She fears the time machine.
Verse
How she dreads her bedtime.
Nights alone with her fear.
She fights but she loses
He reappears he’s here.
Chorus
She doesn’t want to fall asleep.
She fears the time machine.
She’s thirteen, young and innocent
Woken from a dream.
She doesn’t want to fall asleep.
She fears the time machine.
Bridge
She can feel the weight of his body.
The cold blade touch her skin.
What she dreamed would be so beautiful
Becomes a carnal sin.
Tag
She doesn’t want to fall asleep.

Nicely written as usual, Carroll, but very bleak. If I'm understanding it correctly, it's such a personal subject. I think you've done a good job. I imagine it being even more effective if sung in the first person, but then the singer would need to be someone who has experienced this in order not to feel like a phony. Unfortunately, I think many women have.
I may or may not be an enigma

Yep. Unfortunately. Stories all around us waiting to be told. Too bad songs are so short these days they don't allow for much development.
