I think this need a pre chorus any suggestions?

My only suggestion for a prechorus here..
Am I a hero
or a fool?
So is this about love? Or cancer?
Who is asking whom to "look at me, I'm mortal" and why? I feel like I could come up with a better pre-chorus suggestion if I knew. And forgive the denseness if I am missing the obvious meaning.
