Wrote the first version of this early in 2017. Updated it a bit and put it to the instrumental ‘Waves’, which I posted in Tune Topics last week. I think it turned out pretty neat, but any feedback is of course appreciated. Cheers

This Empty Road’s My Home

I hadn’t joined some race

Where I was vying for the lead

Or keeping up some pace

To raise some funds for charity

There was no posse giving chase

No sheriff barking leave

No cheated barkeep screaming

About an ace tucked up my sleeve

But I still ran

Oh, I still ran

I had nowhere to go

So down the open road oh

I just ran

Oh I just ran

Two eyes to guide ten toes

On my two feet on where to go

And I just ran

I had nowhere to go

I had no place to be

No urgent three o’clock to keep

Nothing to see, no one to meet

Just empty road behind me hiding

Under overgrown willow trees

That kept the sun from frying all

The sand beneath my feet

And so I ran

Down the empty road alone

Oh, I just ran

I let my eyes guide my toes and I just ran

Oh I just ran

Oh, I just ran

I had nowhere to go

So down the open road oh

I just ran

Oh I just ran

And I guess I took the long way home

But I don’t really know

Oh I just ran

Though I tried my best

I couldn’t fake belief

I wish I could be blind but close my eyes to sleep and all I see

Is apathy surrounding me

the tragic savage damage of the hatred all Society’s hypocrisy

monoton-rottin-hostile farce false idol-ous it starts to seem

lost home to me

where all sense and peace has ceased

It seems deceased at least I need some time to think

But even when I find the guts to scream

It’s like I don’t know how to breathe

So I know I can’t change a thing

I pinched myself it’s not a dream

And I can’t pretend to know the plan

If I’m at the start or that’s the end

But I’m not stepping back again

Because this is my home

This empty road

There’s nowhere else to go and so I’ll stand

And if the wind brings snow or sand

Until I can’t command my hands

Just know I’ll never run again

And if I’m buried understand

I wasn’t lonely at the end

This empty road’s my friend

And it’s the only home I know

And so I’ll stand

Hey Rhys. Nice arrangement. Of the lyrics, I reckon you could easily delete these ones without any negative effect. It would let your lovely arrangement stand on it's own.

And so I ran

Down the empty road alone

Oh, I just ran

I let my eyes guide my toes and I just ran

Cheers,

Jen
