A song I wrote for my mum this mother's day. Still needs a little work, but I thought I'd share what it sounds like now 🙂
Lyrics:
Momma said, "Wave goodbye to Florida, hun,Â
We’re moving to New York,"
I was four, walking through the empty house,Â
Samantha on the porch,Â
Lights were off, bag was packed,Â
Momma’s hand was in my hand.
Don’t recall anything before that day,
Or anything between
The first day we stepped out of the minivan
On brand-new property,
In the woods, through the bridge,
Played in boxes from the fridge.
Mom has a collection of these memories,
A perfect recollection of who we met,
And when, we can’t remember what we got,
She’s captured every moment of the times that I forgot.
Momma said, "these will be the golden days,"
And we’d always ask why,
At eighteen, I’ve just begun to understand
She was always right,
Wish I had listened then,
In my mother’s loving hands.
Chorus
In a box underneath the bookshelves there
Are photos from the past,
Carefully pressed, baby dresses, little shoes,
Pictures when we laughed,
Labeled for each of us
Is a record of her love,
Chorus
Enjoyed Da Listen (;LOVE IT;)

I'm surprised Gary hasn't commented here... This one is obviously very personal, but it still tells a relatable story. Great structure, internal rhymes, definitive chorus... I'm sure MOM is proud! 🙂

Your voice is really captivating Phoebe. You could sing the phone book and it would be worth the listen. It also has a very contemporary feel to it. This is the kind of voice you hear on the radio and elsewhere these days.
When you sing the sustained "forgo-o-o-ot," I think it gets a little too loud. Also, I wonder if it might sound even better if you lowered the volume on the harmony just a little. I'm not sure about that, just a thought.
It's a lovely song, Phoebe. In my family, I'm the one who has kept all these things for my daughters, so I can relate 🙂
I may or may not be an enigma
