Verse
I met a ghost who whispered
Boy I'll see you soon.
I know that you're coming
I've booked you a room.
Pre chorus
I held a funeral for my future.
Had tombstones in my eyes.
I had a gypsy read my fortune.
Foretold my demise.
Chorus
I dug my grave years ago.
Knew I'd need it soon.
I sold my soul long ago.
For a silver spoon.
Verse
She said she saw a white horse.
A man with a spear.
said she saw a serpent
whose poison was fear.
Pre chorus
I held a funeral for my future.
Had tombstones in my eyes.
I had a gypsy read my fortune.
She foretold my demise.
Chorus
I dug my grave years ago.
Knew I'd need it soon.
I sold my soul long ago
For a silver spoon.
Bridge
She said the first bites not fatal
But you'll be on your way.
You won't have to wait long
To lie in your grave.
Chorus
I dug my grave years ago
But it wasn't with a spade.
I dug my grave long ago
With the choice i made.

Carroll, is this a song about someone selling their soul for riches (the silver spoon)? If so, I think it would be more impactful if we had a concrete incident, something he did, a choice he made that now haunts him.
Did you miss out a line in the second verse? I expected 4 lines.

Ah, that completely changes things. I was thinking of the expression "born with a silver spoon in his mouth."
It makes a lot more sense now. Images like tombstones for eyes and the first bite are powerful. I really like this now that I know what it's about. The question is, will others latch on to the meaning I missed? Anyone care to chime in?

Just jarred an old memory. Remember the song Spoonfull by Cream or Blind Faith.

Ok edited the left out pieces. Hope it makes better sense.
