Nice Truck!

I’m gonna go ahead and use this dragged out intro to say

old town road is a country song

and people who say it isn’t are just a bunch of assholes

And you know it must be true

because I play a guitar better than you

Oh, but you got a nicer truck than I do

Well shoot

That’s a real nice truck

A brand new two tone four door ford

You’ve got a real nice truck

It’s a jacked up three valve four by four

Oh, it’s a real nice truck

Nine point one two steps to the door

You’ve got a real nice truck

with an unscratched bed

And the softest damn hands I’ve ever seen before

So I ask you why you bought it

You say the ladies love it

And you just wanna score

I say it seems to me

If you can’t sweep her off her feet

Cuz you’re just too weak

I think that probably matters more

Then I ask you where you got it

You say your daddy bought it

And it really ain’t that great

At least you’ve got two more

And then you look at me

Like it’s the coolest damn thing

You drive a ninety g truck

That your old man paid for

Then shake mine with a hand that you can’t pretend

Has ever held plucked a guitar or swung a hammer before

But that’s a real nice truck

That’s a real nice truck

That’s a real nice truck

A brand new two tone four door ford

You’ve got a real nice truck

It’s a jacked up three valve four by four

Oh, it’s a real nice truck

Nine point one two steps to the door

You’ve got a real nice truck with an unscratched bed

And the softest damn hands I’ve ever seen before

Hands that never swung an ax or a hammer before

Hands that never swept a woman off her feet before

I love it. The best you've done, in my opinion. The new phone mic is better LOL. And you slowed it down enough to let us enjoy the lyrics as it goes along.

It's funny and it's mean, but the listener can't help feeling that he deserves it. You are in danger of losing our sympathy with the line "Cuz you’re just too weak." At that point, the singer changes from sardonic to just a bully, and our sympathy switches a little to the object of his derision. I would definitely ditch that line if I were you or change it to something like "Cuz you just ain't real" or "Cuz you're just a fake."

You could add some variety and a stronger melodic feel to the chorus by going up instead of down on the word "four" at the end of lines. I think that would really improve it.

I think you are still trying to pack too many words into some lines, words that don't add anything.

"That your old man paid for" could just be "Your old man paid for"

"I think that probably matters more" could just be "That probably matters more"

etc.

Great song!

Dude!!! Love it. Great idea for a tune.

Tight writing here:

That’s a real nice truck
A brand new two tone four door ford
You’ve got a real nice truck
It’s a jacked up three valve four by four
Oh, it’s a real nice truck
Nine point one two steps to the door
You’ve got a real nice truck

Gavin, I read the "too weak" line as his hands are soft, meaning he doesn't work for a living so he's physically too weak to sweep a woman off her feet. With that interpretation, the line isn't full on bullying.  ???

Totally agree about taking out some unnecessary words to help the listener keep up.

Love this tune, Rhys. Such a clever twist...and here I thought it was a song about a truck. lol

Hey folks! Thanks a ton for the feedback, as always 😛 I’m glad y’all like it, and I hear ya on the clumsy line length thing. I might have rushed the verse a bit when writing it, I’ll clean it up when I get a chance. As far as the “just too weak” line, Gavin, I definitely intended it to come across as Jenny said, just trying to juxtapose the idea of a huge truck against a guy whose physical shape suggests he doesn’t need one. I hope that changes things a bit, because this guy doesn’t want to come across as any sort of bully 😛 That said, I feel like anyone who feels this song’s about them probably has a big enough ego to shake it off anyhow! Cheers folks, good to hear from ya both and hope all’s well with you 🙂
