Was retracing my footsteps back thru the past.
When I met a man with a mask who asked me
What does the future hold?
I knew but I didn’t want to tell him
It’s a place where we grow old.

I played him an old movie shot in the past
Where he came upon his name in the cast

This is intriguing, Carroll. Not sure how to interpret it. Is he meeting his younger self?
I might change these lines to dialogue just to make it more vivid and allow the singer to be more expressive.
So I told him to solve the riddle.
What is old but dies young?
to
So I said to him, "Solve this riddle.
What is old but dies young?"
I may or may not be an enigma
