Hey guys.
I know this is not a lyric, but this section of the Junction gets the most traffic so I thought I'd put this here instead of in the announcements. Like for most, covid has been hard on the pocket book. I've just launched an Facebook page as part of a sideline I'm setting up writing bespoke songs and singing demos etc. I've just posted my first post. The FB algorithm is set to respond to the first 24 hours of traffic so if I get a bit of traffic from my post within the first 24 hours, the post will be pushed out to more people. If not, it won't get seen by hardly anyone (especially since it's a completely new page with a great big zero followers). If you have an FB account, would you please take a look and engage with the post in some way (like, comment, share, or follow). It would be a huge help to my wee fledgling business. I do promise to never ask again. It's really just a one off to get me going.

Thanks a bunch guys.

I don't know what happened but my post has disappeared from my main page. Anyone here have experience with that?
Update: Flag that bit above about mysterious disappearing posts. I figured it out. If anyone else has ever had that problem... try making sure you're posting as your page and not your private self. The default is always the personal account it seems (even though I was on the music page when posting -- whoops). What are friends for right. Y'all get the teething problems of this newbie to the social media marketing world. 🙂

Thank you Gavin. Thank you very much. It's a challenge starting from zero. It feels like I have a mountain looming in front of me and I'm not even in the foothills yet! : )

I haven't yet, but that is the plan, yes. As you know, I'm a little slow with technical stuff so I thought I'd get my head around the website and the facebook page first. Next up is figuring out Paypal and then it's airGigs and then Fiverr. I'm finding Facebook is a big challenge.

Hey Jenny Jenny! How is it going? Have you had any progess yet? Pretty much all musicians, as well as most EVERY occupation these days, are having a tough time. Although I hope we all will be coming out of things before too terribly long.
Have you tried any 'FACEBOOK LIVE" or things corralling your existing fan base? A possibility is asking people that have been following you if you could write and record custom songs for them. Possible birthday, weddings, births, anniverseries, etc. The general concept is to start as locally as you can with people who have already followed your music.
A problem that we all have is the mutlitude of people who are out there doing the same thing. So finding a group of people in your immediate camp is always a good way to go. You pretty much have to do it all.
One of the most eye opening things about Nashville was how few people actually derived their income from music alone. Even some of the most successful songwriters also seemed to have side businesses. They owned studios, performed with other artists, had other educational based services. But many owned totally unrelated businesses. Electrical contractors, plumbers (one friend of mine who was a great plumber, was working on a toilet of mine while his third number one was on the radio. Most of the people who have experience, usually kept their original businesses, and did other things outside of music, to deal with that sometimes very long time between the up cycle of the business.
"Don't quit your day job" was always a great piece of advice I got and tried to adhere to.
So while you explore your options and work on whatever you can, never overlook things that might be much closer to you. My own "Facebook live" shows re-connected me with many people around the world that reminded them that "I'm still around." I pick up a few clients here and there each month. You never know who might be lurking around out there that we already know.
It's great to hear from you and good luck in your search. As always, I'm around if you need to bounce anything off or just get a sympathetic shoulder.

Jen, here's a band doing what MAB mentioned - songs for special occasions and the like. A modern take on singing telegrams.

By the way, these kids are enormously talented. I think they could be poised for a breakthrough into the big time. They deserve it.

Hey Jenny Jenny! How is it going? Have you had any progess yet?
Hi Marc. I'd have to say it's going "ish." I've got a fella who doesn't know how to write a melody or play and instrument, but has written some "lyrics" that he'd like put to music. What he's written has holes all over the show. I asked him if I could change it or if he'd like it as is and he said he'd like it to stay as it is as much as possible. SOooooo, I suggested some very surface changes (which he's accepted) and I'm just gonna have to work with that. Sigh. Still, it's progress. I only opened my facebook page up five days ago so I've got a long way to go yet. I'm hoping I'll be able to kick things off a bit more when I get into AirGigs etc. What this space. 🙂

No. Nothing like that yet. I'm really starting from zero (totally new start, zero followers on FB). I think if I did FB Live, it'd be through the Evans and Stokes page where we've got a large audience (unfortunately, the fan-base is not transferable. TOTALLY different genre). Right now, today, Jenny Stokes Solo is a nobody on FB. I think I can definitely draw on the work that I've done for friends though, particularly when it comes to promotion and reviews. You've always said that your network is your best friend. I'm hoping to build on that cause it feels like the right approach.

They're based in Brooklyn, NY but there is a local connection for us. One of the girls grew up here and knows my eldest daughter. Their progress was put on hold a bit by the pandemic and they quarantined down here. While they were housebound, they had some fun recording one of my songs.
But, they're much better than that LOL. Check out these links:
