We got a one-eyed hound dog sleeping at the door
A three legged cat that won't drink no more
A stuffed alligator hanging from the roof
And a hose outside to clean your boots
We got brand new gravel in the parking lot
The sign on the door says "shirts or not"
Betty at the bar wears a .44Mag
And the fresh fried oysters are the best you ever had
The music's always live and the beer is cold
And every guitar picker in town plays rock-n-roll
Come on folks we're gonna' sing and dance
Dogs gotta' howl and cats gotta' prance
Romance never felt like such a thrill
At the Ditty'bop Bar-n-Grill
Betty keeps purses safe behind the bar
Bonnie keeps the peace no matter who you are
Bridget works sound and lights for the band
Gavin runs the kitchen like a crazy man
Betty gets respect from all the boys
'Cause it's always ladies night and ladies choice
Come on folks we're gonna' sing and dance...

Any significance to the names in the song? Is this about people you know? The guy running the kitchen has a very distinguished name ๐

Here's what I came up with. I added some lyrics ๐
ย
THE DITTY BOP BAR & GRILL
(By JAPOV and Gavin)
ย
We got a one-eyed hound dog sleeping at the door
A three legged cat that won't drink no more
A stuffed alligator hanging from the roof
And a hose outside to clean your boots
ย
We got brand new gravel in the parking lot
The sign on the door says "shirts or not"
Betty at the bar wears a .44Mag
And the fresh fried oysters are the best you ever had
ย
The music's always live and the beer is cold
And every guitar picker in town plays rock-n-roll
ย
Come on folks we're gonna' sing and dance
Dogs gotta howl and cats gotta' prance
Romance never felt like such a thrill
Saturday night at the Ditty Bop Bar-n-Grill
ย
Betty keeps purses safe behind the bar
Bonnie keeps the peace no matter who you are
Bridget works sound and lights for the band
Bubba runs the kitchen like a crazy man
ย
Nine or ten beers and he climbs up on stage
His missus shouting, โBubba, act your age?โ
But the band donโt mind, cause Bubba can sing
And theyโre just about to start into โWild Thing.โ
ย
Betty gets respect from all the boys
'Cause it's always ladies night and ladies choice
ย
Come on folks we're gonna sing and dance
Dogs gotta' howl and cats gotta' prance
Romance never felt like such a thrill
Saturday night at the Ditty Bop Bar-n-Grill.
ย
At the end of the night when you fall asleep at the bar
Betty will hide the keys to your car
ย
Come on folks we're gonna sing and dance
Dogs gotta howl and cats gotta' prance
Romance never felt like such a thrill
Saturday night at the Ditty bop Bar-n-Grill.

Not sure my voice really works for this, but it was fun. I had to remove Gavin from the kitchen as I sensed imagining me in an apron was interfering with your work. You can imagine Bubba instead.
Any suggestions?

Your lyrics are a perfectly natural progression, very good, I like it! Musically, you made it work with your style lol... I'm impressed, sounds like it belongs in your collection ๐
Considering I had no melody in mind when I posted this, I can hardly criticize... there's absolutely nothing wrong with it "as is". However... (and you should know me by now lol)... I always write with "rhythm" in mind. This lyric is a lot easier to sing with a slightly slower "rock/swing" beat ๐

I know what you mean. It seems to me that there are two approaches to writing a song - rhythm based, where you start with a riff and melody based, where you start with....well, the melody. I always seem to start with the melody.
Easier to sing? Where's the challenge in that? LOL
