It's 75 days since Songwriter Junction went live. I thought I'd post a few reflections here.
1. I think the site is generally working pretty well from a technical point of view after that major glitch we had a while back. The new hosting company is a major improvement. One area in which we have been successful so far is in combating the spam bandits that periodically impacted SW101. They are still out there and they have found this site and even joined up, but a few simple measures have so far kept them from posting their crap all over the site. I hope we are able to continue this success.
2. I think we still need more members. We have about 3o, if we take away the spammers and duplicates where people seem to have got confused and registered twice. I'll be removing all these folks soon. Sorry 1sextoysshop and okisakosotem. Having a relatively small membership keeps it nice and cozy, but I still think we need more if people are going to be able to reasonably expect feedback on what they post. So if you know anyone who might be interested in joining...
3. I think we need to remember that this is a place to give as well as receive. If you post your own stuff and appreciate the feedback you get, then please remember to return the favor and comment on what others post. We don't want to be relying on the same few people. I can vouch for the fact that feedback really does help and is appreciated.
4. Talking of feedback, if you have any suggestions for the forum or the site, please reply to this post. I've had a couple of suggestions that just weren't possible technically, but also a couple that were implemented and improved the site quite a lot. So feel free to make suggestions.
I've tried mentioning SongwriterJunction over on Just Plain Pharmaceuticals, oops! Folks, as a way to maybe get a visitor, and possibly a member. Propagating things from here to there, there to here, might work. JPF goes dead, just like 101 did from time to time. I remember a visitor or new member, probably back on 101, who said, "It's nice to find a website with 'current' posts." In other words those posts from 1967 are inspiring! lol
Those of you with tech skills, teach something. Those of you who already know that stuff, talk back a bit, add to the knowledge.
If you're recording this is as good a test market as any.
If you're writing, and open to discussion, try us out.
If there's something happening in the music world, find the right forum and report on it.
Exile is playing in Raceland, Kentucky in July (I think)
The Guess Who are playing in Ashland, Kentucky sometime soon. That's about 30 miles from me. They were a very talented bunch of players and interesting Songwriters back when the world was young. I expect if they have any of those players they'll entertain.
Who knows who you might meet at a concert? Songwriters, like-minded folk, maybe industry folk who are your connection to other things.
Despite 1,000's of years of Songwriting humans have not exhausted the possibilities. There will always be another Song to be written. Someone will write it. Why not you? www.garyeandrews.com
You know... what people want is their songs/lyrics to be recorded. How about every month we vote on the best lyric/song concept and do our best to record it. Or, record 2-3 different versions of it... That'll get us a reputation real quick! ?

That's a great idea, Tony.. If the members/ composers of Junction could do that, Yes that'll get us a quick reputation but I think it won't be easy..
You always forget to check your PM Tony, by the way...
Reaching the top is so hard but not impossible.
Interesting idea, Tony. We could start by having a "Lyric of the Month," voted on by members. It would certainly be another way for members to engage with the forum. I do have a couple of concerns though. Firstly, do we really want to inject an element of competition into the community? Secondly, we have a limited number of composers and they tend to have their own projects going on. I know from experience that you are very generous in this regard. On the other hand, I have to admit that I'm not much use at putting others' work to music because melodies almost always seem to come to me with words attached. (Clearly that's not always the case, since the last thing I posted was an instrumental LOL). How do others feel about stepping up?
Gary, I noticed your mention of the Junction over at JPF and appreciated it.
I've always wondered Gav, if I record an acoustic guitar with a metronome in my typical style and send you a wav file, how difficult would it be for you to throw some quick accompanyment at it and perhaps get "her highness" to sing? 🙂

Yes Gav, that's what I meant.. There are a limited number of composers and they tend to have their own projects going on.

I'll give it a shot if you want to send something over. Can't speak for Her Highness, of course.
I may or may not be an enigma

You're the man Gav! Set a date and let the voting begin 🙂
Just to be clear, I'm always willing to do a little rhythm guitar and vox in my usual style to kick things off... how things evolve from there will just depend I guess. Gavin has been producing some really great sounding backing tracks lately so.... I would recommend keeping things simple to start 🙂

Love that idea.

People are having a difficult time joining the site. I just tried looking for a place to join on the website and can't find a login for new members. I've had several people try joining and give up for this reason.

Hi Carroll,
If you click on Forum, that takes you to the main mage of the Forum. At the top you see the menu with Forums, Members, Recent Posts, Register, Log In. Clicking on Register takes you where you need to be to enter the required info. You won't see this option if you are logged in, since that means that you are already registered. However, if you log out, you will see the Register option in the top menu of the forum just under site title.
Ok thanks.
