I'm all for getting your name out there, however The Mysterious Beings or even more so Mysterious Beings, has a certain allure.  Maybe even " Mysterious Beings featuring Gavin Sinclair".   Good luck on your album and best wishes,

If anonymity is your purpose, or a factor due to fear of political correctness and the repercussions potential in a land where repercussions get 'legalized', perhaps "The Mysterious Beings", or, as a poster who shall remain anonymous said, just "Mysterious Beings" might be the best course.
Less is possibly more in the effect of those words without baggage. (Oh dear! You're not baggage brother! But...)
It is an excellent name. I've always thought so. It demands a reader conjure meaning, and easily enables them to ponder on it. 

However, if promoting the main creative force among the MB's is the main motive, perhaps Gavin's name should be prominently featured. As you know, Mysterious Beings tend to come and go but the Main Man is the core of creativity, Intellectual Property ownership, personality, proprietorship, all those ships that men went down to the sea in, so perhaps his name should be featured.
Options:
Gavin Sinclair and the Mysterious Beings. (Sounds formal, serious, businesslike.)
Gavin and the Mysterious Beings. (Sounds like Gavin's the front man, and they're a team.)
The Mysterious Beings, featuring Gavin Sinclair. (Sounds like Gavin joined the team for the album, coming in from solo work, and may go back to it.)
Mysterious Beings. (Appeals to the inquisitive, among a broad spectrum of possible 'readers'. You can't read it and not think something!)
I'm no help. All options have their appeal.
Perhaps more research into motive will help you decide. What do you hope to accomplish with the album and the band name?
Anonymity? Mysterious Beings.
Notoriety? Gavin Sinclair and...
Familiarity? Gavin and...

Thanks Guy, Deac and Gary. Gary, that's a very detailed analysis, and yet no conclusion - just like me :). I guess I'm only feeling the pressure to make a decision, because once it's done, it's done and permanent.

Years ago, I wrote a letter to the local paper, gently poking fun at certain conservative views. My address and phone number weren't published, but my wife started getting nasty calls while I was at work. I don't think the atmosphere has changed for the better in the meantime. Only a few of my songs are political. I don't really consider them political, actually, more social commentary on issues like climate change and conspiracy theories, but those are trigger issues to certain elements.

So, maybe Gavin & The Mysterious Beings is the best choice. On the other hand, The Mysterious Beings has a certain.....oh crap, here I go again LOL. 

You can always take on a pseudo-name, as many here on the site do, ummmm….lets try a few, how about" Sinclair G and The Mysterious Beings", or "Sinclair and The Mysterious Beings", or "GSTMB", never mind that won't work.   Oh Oh wait, what about "Sinclair G and The Mysterious B's", or "Gee and The Mysterious Beings".  Would "Gav and The Mysterious Beings" work???  Honestly, I really think "Gavin and the Mysterious Beings" would work best, with "Mysterious Beings" coming in a real close second.  Good luck and best wishes,

Gavin Being Mysterious, The Mysterious Bee Gees, Gavin Mysterious and the Beings, The Mystery of Gavin, Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons… I'm really not getting anywhere. I started this thread saying that the best part of being in a band is choosing a name. Not so sure now.
