A little backgrounder... This is a hymn I wrote based on Psalm 66. It's actually meant to be sung in a couple of different settings for the Catholic Mass. The first setting is the Responsorial Psalm. There, the singer will intone the chorus, then the congregation will join in. I recorded the song to reflect that. The second is as a Praise & Worship song, and in that case, we'd probably just start with the chorus and not repeat it.
Shout With Joy
by Brendan Delumpa
CHORUS
Shout with joy!
Shout with joy!
All you people
Shout to God with joy!
VERSE 1
Let us sing to the glory of our God
Shout with joy to the Lord
For wonderful are the gifts He brings to us
We praise and worship Your name!
VERSE 2
Come and see the awesome pow'r of God
All that He's done for us!
Bless our God who rules us by His might
Let us rejoice in Him!
BRIDGE
Come bless the Lord
And sing His praise
Who holds us to His heart
O bless the Lord
And His saving hand
Sing of His power
Sing of His glory
Shout out to God with joy!
Very nice. I think it would be better with more than one voice -- harmony and/or echoes.
I understand that "shout with joy" is the hook and the whole point of the song, but it does get repeated too often.
I like the idea of writing songs based on psalms. I wrote a 23rd psalm song, and think I might do some others.
The world can always use more spiritual songs, imo.
Thanks for taking a look. Yeah, I see your point about the word "joy." I'll play with it a bit.
Our Lord and Savior sits at God's own right hand
And keeps a place for us in heaven
Thy kingdom come is a truth we hold dear
Because we are forgiven
All creation magnifies His name
All bow before His majesty
Oh what a blessing to be called to His will
And to share His victory

Hello Brendan. Nice work.
I can totally hear this in a massed choir, especially if the choristers were given some freedom to just let go in the chorus to just praise, letting their voices soar.
One suggestion for verse 1. Instead of "God" and "For wonderful are the gifts He brings to us" try...
Let us sing to the glory of our King
Shout with joy to the Lord
For wonderful are the gifts that He brings
We praise and worship Your name!
My feeling is that the "to us" is implied and need not be said.
Blessings,
Jen
