Rusty Old Cage (Neil Cotton)

My teachers were right
Knowledge is power
I’m losing my grip
On my ivory tower
The years have opened
My treasure of truths
The decades have stolen
What I learned in my youth

My steel trap mind is a rusty old cage
Age has created a sieve from my brain
Facts were like cash safe in a vault
Father time sucks I need him to stop
The old is leaving the new won’t stay
My steel trap mind is a rusty old cage

I knew car engines
Like my friends names
Some Dick changed the parts
Put ‘em in a new place
I tuned carburetors
Computers are there
Control some injector
Mixing fuel with air

My steel trap mind is a rusty old cage
Age has created a sieve from my brain
Facts were like cash safe in a vault
Father time sucks I need him to stop
The old is leaving the new won’t stay
My steel trap mind is a rusty old cage

Still a few gems I’m able to access
Takes a while to educate my guess

My steel trap mind is a rusty old cage
Age has created a sieve from my brain
Facts were like cash safe in a vault
Father time sucks I need him to stop
The old is leaving the new won’t stay
My steel trap mind is a rusty old cage

The old is leaving the new won’t stay
My steel trap mind is a rusty old cage

Really like this, Neil. I think it maybe deserves a better recording of the vocals. You sound far away. I get the feeling there's a warmth to your voice that you're not fully capturing.

I may or may not be an enigma

Yes Gavin, a vocal redo would help I'm sure...my hearing is not perfect and mixing can be a problem...I will have another listen.
I'm happy that generally you like it.

Yes, I do like it, Neil. It's poignant without being maudlin. I like the tune too.
