GONE BY DAWN

Martin Lide
Songwriter and lead vocals

Brent Mason (via NashvilleTrax.com)
Rhythm guitar and electric lead fills

Michael Zaneski
Backing vocals, production and all other instrumentation

I've put this song up before and never liked my rhythm guitar, I was talking to Bill Watson of NashvilleTrax.com about what he might add to fill out the song some and he suggested that he had Brent Mason coming in for a session and would include this song in the session. So my rhythm guitar was swapped out for Mason's and Mason added lead fills. A very fortunate occurence.

The intro "lick" that introduces the song is Michael Zaneski's.

Martin, I've said elsewhere that you are the king of heartache. I'm revising that title to Emperor. The lyrics here are absolutely spot-on. They have to be to hold us for five and a half minutes. Production, vocals - there's nothing not to absolutely love about this.

I may or may not be an enigma

I'll second that. It's rare that I'll sit and listen to a five minute song TWICE IN A ROW with my attention focused on the song the ENTIRE time. I wanted the second listen to catch anything wonderful I'd missed the first time.

If I had to pick something to change it would be the enunciation of "leave the air." I didn't hear it the first time through and had to really focus to hear that line on the second pass...but that's just splitting straws. I love it.

Thanks Jen. Very much.

It's hard for a song to attract a complete listen. Two listens does not happen much in a world saturated with songs.

I deeply appreciate that you did.

This song is the first in a seven song story that I'm still working on. All the songs are written and produced but some tweaking remains to do.

I will get with Mike, the producer, and see if we can clarify "leave the air." As expressions go, it's a little odd and unfamiliar and that may be part of the problem also.

Thanks again,

Martin
