The past is a mirage
Verse
I remember the green fields of yesterday
When life was like apple pie.
When honesty was a badge we wore proudly
And the newsman didn’t tell lies.
Pre chorus
Maybe it’s my rose colored glasses?
Maybe I’m longing for my youth.
The future’s an unanswered question?
The past is a distorted truth.
Chorus
Parked like an old Cadillac.
Sheltered in a garage.
An oasis in the sand.
The past is a mirage.
Verse
I recollect the brightly colored rainbows
When dreams were like pots of gold.
When happiness was a bright colored package.
Wrapped up in ribbons and bows.
Verse
Like dry drinking hole a grave for my soul.
The razor edge of a knife.
An oasis I see that ceases to be.
The further I go in life.
Bridge
I remember it being wonderful.
I’ve forgotten the wounds of war.
I choose to remember the best of it.
And the worst I choose to ignore.
