Mr. Wannabe
Verse
You were the big fish in a small pond.
A semi successful wannabe.
I was the weird kid in a rock band;
A certified one of a kind me.
Pre chorus
You moved away to college;
didn’t make the team.
Paid to go see me in concert;
bought a front row seat.
Chorus
Funny how life moves in circles.
How now you envy me.
I’m up on stage doing my thing.
You’re Mr. Wannabe.
Verse
You were the king at the high school prom.
I stayed home that night playing guitar.
you were the star of the football team.
I dreamed of being a big rock star.
Pre chorus
you earned average grades in school;
left with a business degree.
I played halftime at the Superbowl;
You came to see me.
Chorus
Funny how life moves in circles.
How now you envy me.
I’m up on stage doing my thing.
You’re Mr. Wannabe.
Bridge
You wannabe famous.
You wannabe rich.
You wannabe me.

I like this. It does come across as a bit gloating, which is not a great look for a singer, but I think it could still work and depending on the arrangement, could even be a plus. How do you feel about changing the envy line to wannabe?
Funny how life moves in circles.
Now you wannabe me.
I’m up on stage doing my thing.
You’re Mr. Wannabe.
I get that you might want to keep that pay off for the end, which is something to balance against the value of repetition in the chorus, so it's more just food for thought than anything.
Good one!
I may or may not be an enigma
