Earning the pimp his pay
Verse
I was told I had talent.
Put it on the internet.
Go with a streaming service.
A choice I’d soon regret.
Pre chorus
Somebodies getting wealthy
But lord it ain’t me.
Seems I’m like a golden goose.
Someone’s money tree.
Chorus
I feel like a prostitute
Earning the pimp his pay.
Verse
I had a song go viral.
Got a couple million hits.
When I counted my money
I didn’t make jack shit.
Pre chorus
Somebodies getting wealthy
But lord it ain’t me.
Seems I’m like a golden goose.
Someone’s money tree.
Chorus
I feel like a prostitute
Earning the pimp his pay.
Verse
I had a song go platinum.
The critics gave it four stars.
Yet I’m playing county fairs
For peanuts in a bar.
Pre chorus
Somebodies getting wealthy
But lord it ain’t me.
Seems I’m like a golden goose.
Someone’s money tree.
Chorus
I feel like a prostitute
Earning the pimp his pay.
Bridge
Thousands of hours of practice
Suffering for the art.
What I thought would be my big break
Only broke my heart.
Chorus
I feel like a prostitute
Earning the pimp his pay.
carroll kiphen
This reads well, Carroll, and a lot of musicians would agree with the sentiment, but when I imagine someone singing it, it seems it might come across as a bit whiny to the audience. I remember hearing somewhere that singers tend to steer clear of songs that make them look like a loser.
I may or may not be an enigma
