Shame on me and you
Verse
I woke up this morning
Read the morning times.
Said the war was over
A treaty was signed.
Pre chorus
Promised us tranquility.
An end to all the hate.
But I knew reality
Promised another fate.
Chorus
If we choose to believe the news.
Shame on me and you.
Shame, shame, shame on me and you.
Shame on me and you.
Verse
It’s all smoke and mirrors.
Just another ruse.
We’re pawns on a chessboard.
Puppets to be used.
Pre chorus
Promised us tranquility.
An end to all the hate.
But I knew reality
Promised another fate.
Chorus
If we choose to believe the news.
Shame on me and you.
Shame, shame, shame on me and you.
Shame on me and you.
Bridge
I don’t care you don’t believe me.
I’ve seen this all before.
The politics of deception.
The tyrants’s silent war.

I don't think the angry Carroll's lyrics are as appealing as the old Carroll. Is this something you just have to work through when the "wrong" guy wins an election? If so, I can identify with that feeling and sympathize. I also don't think there's anything wrong with harnessing those feelings creatively, but it's not easy to do so without just sounding bitter. I had a similar creative surge a few years ago, but found that humor was about the only way to express those feelings.
I hope someone else comments who maybe shares your feelings about the media and the world in general. I'm maybe not the best audience for this particular song. I might not have commented except that nobody else has.
I may or may not be an enigma
