Hello all!
This song is about someone who wanted to be different for a long time. But I'm not sure if I got this right, because the people I've shown it to so far, they all thought it was a love story...
Please tell me what I should write differently.
Thank you 🙂
Melodies
(Verse1)
I tried to pretending like that style of blues
When you just drinking cause you've got nothing left to loose
I tried to feel that stronger type of rock
When you know, nothing could make you shocked
(Chorus)
But the personality of my is R&B
I'm a weird mix, things mean more to me
I can make you smile even on your saddest days
And I make you think of me in different ways
My melodies have a strange effect on others
It triggers a reaction I can't always handle
Oh, my melodies, my melodies
I love to see how you make it, queen of jazz
More of music, less of problems, less of stress
Oh, I'm fascinated by the melody of your soul
Oh, your melodies, your melodies
(Verse2)
I've been shaking for your beats of hip hop
I'm not like that, something's saying "stop off"
I've been popping for your hits of EDM
But it gave me headache, no, it's not who I am
(Chorus)
Cause the personality of my is R&B
I'm a weird mix, things mean more to me
I can make you smile even on your saddest days
And I make you think of me in different ways
My melodies have a strange effect on others
It triggers a reaction I can't always handle
Oh, my melodies, my melodies
I love to see how you do it, king of reggae
More of drums, less of vocals, less of "maybe"
Oh, I'm fascinated by the melody of your soul
Oh, your melodies, your melodies
(Bridge)
I wanted to change for too long
I thought, with my heart I couldn't be strong
I wanted to be different day by day
I switched the personalities, they couldn't stay
But I gave it up
Cause I realized that
(Chorus)
The personality of my is R&B
I'm a weird mix, things mean more to me
I can make you smile even on your saddest days
And I make you think of me in different ways
My melodies have a strange effect on others
It triggers a reaction I can't always handle
Oh, my melodies, my melodies
I still love to see how you make it, kings of Rock 'n Roll
Everybody knows you from old to doll
Oh, I'm fascinated by the melody of your soul
Oh, your melodies, your melodies
Hi Bogi,
Here's a few ideas, some of them correcting your English, some trying to make it sound a bit more natural, some adding internal rhymes.
I didn't make this change, but it occurs to me that there is a disconnect between the verses and the chorus. The verses talk about trying to like different kinds of music, while the chorus talks about the type of music that you are. It might be better to change the verses to fit with this idea, e.g. "I've tried pretending to be that style of blues."
Melodies
(Verse1)
I've tried pretending to like that style of blues
All about drinking cause there's nothing left to lose
An' I tried to feel the power of the kind of rock
That sets your ears ringing, head spinning, in shock
(Chorus)
But my personality is all R&B (or But as for me - I'm all R&B)
I see things differently, they mean more to me
I can make you smile even on your saddest days
And I make you think of me in different ways
Does my melody have a strange effect on you?
You look at me like that, and I don't know what to do
Oh, my melodies, my melodies
I love the way you do it, queen of jazz
More music, less of the problems, less of the stress
Oh, the melody of your soul!
Oh, your melodies, your melodies
(Verse2)
Hey, hip hop, your beats have got me shaking
But that's not me, and I'm no good at faking
And EDM, I've tried bopping to your hits
But my head exploded and I'm still looking for the bits
(Chorus)
'Cause as for me - I'm all R&B
I see things differently, they mean more to me
I can make you smile even on your saddest days
And I make you think of me in different ways
Does my melody have a strange effect on you?
You look at me like that, and I don't know what to do
Oh, my melodies, my melodies
I love the way you do it, king of reggae
More drums, less of the vocals, less of the "maybe"
Oh, the melody of your soul!
Oh, your melodies, your melodies
(Bridge)
I've been wanting to change for way too long
How could a heart like mine ever be strong?
Changing who I am from day to day
Trying on a different me, but now I'm saying
Enough!
Don't need to do that stuff!
(Chorus)
'Cause, as for me - I'm all R&B
I see things differently, they mean more to me
I can make you smile even on your saddest days
And I make you think of me in different ways
Does my melody have a strange effect on you?
You look at me like that, and I don't know what to do
Oh, my melodies, my melodies
I still love the way you do it, kings of Rock 'n Roll
Everybody rocks, you never grow old
Oh, the melody of your soul!
Oh, your melodies, your melodies

Great advice! A really nice re-write. Seems a bit long to be radio friendly but I still like longer songs so fine by me.

Thank you for your advice and apologies for the late reply!
I've edited the lyrics a little, but very little.
But I'm a little worried about that
the rhymes within the sentence will make the rhyme at the end less pronounced.
Like:
An' I tried to feel the power of the kind of rock
That sets your ears ringing, head spinning, in shock

I'm sorry @japov, but I can't think of anything witty to say about R&B ??
I wasn't looking for anything witty LOL... many argue that basically everything is R&B. I was just wondering what you listen to ?Â

Lol
honestly I love listening to almost all types of music, R&B, Blues, pop, rock, jazz, hip hop, soul, rock 'n roll
Hey Bogi, the internal rhymes won't make the ones at the end of the lines any weaker. Never be afraid of internal rhymes. At least that's my advice 🙂
You do need the word "the" in the line you ask about. It's a weird idiomatic thing. You can't say "less of problems." Grammatically, it would have to be "less problems," or, strictly speaking, "fewer problems." However, you can say "less of the problems." There's a complicated grammatical explanation, but mostly it's just feel and common usage.
Also, you need "to" between "pretending" and "like" in the first line.

Thank you for all your good advice and great editing.
I tried to write a private message, but somehow I can't send it. The message would simply be to seek further advice.
I have a question about writing lyrics to music.
I'm not good with melodies at all and I've tried to write lyrics to the tune of ready music, but I didn't have an idea for the sing, so I don't know if it was good. If you could give me some advice on how to practice, that would help a lot.
Thank you! 🙂
Hi Bogi. I just sent you a private message to see if it was working. It seemed to work for me. Please let me know if you receive the message.
I'm not sure how to advise you about melodies. When I write, usually the melody and lyric come at the same time, or the lyric suggests a melody to me kind of without thinking. Can you play an instrument, even badly? Sometimes sitting at a piano and picking out notes or strumming a guitar will bring melodies to mind.Â

Hi Mr. Gavin
I got the message, but I still can't send mine. :/
I used to play piano, but... Well, I wasn't very good, and now I've forgotten what I knew. ??
Anyway, thank you!
