Geronimo the warrior
Verse 1
He rides his painted pony like the eagle rides the wind
among the canyons and the gullies of the Rio Grande’s great bend.
Like the spirits that he worships he’s as silent as a ghost.
Like the big cat on the mountain now you see him now you don’t.
Chorus
Geronimo the warrior, the last hope of the brave,
eludes the U.S. Calvary in between his raids.
He knows it’s all but over; the ammunition’s gone.
He’ll be forced to surrender at first light of the dawn.
Has to live among the white eyes the rest of his days.
Geronimo the warrior, the last hope of the brave.
Verse 2
No more herds of buffalo; running free upon the plains,
just barbwire, and settlements and the white man’s long steel trains.
It closes in and suffocates the proud Apache’s will
that he’s no longer free to roam; there’s no more buffalo to kill.
Chorus
Geronimo the warrior, the last hope of the brave,
eludes the U.S. Calvary in between his raids.
He knows it’s all but over; the ammunition’s gone.
He’ll be forced to surrender at the light of dawn.
Has to live among the white eyes the rest of his days.
Geronimo the warrior, the last hope of the brave.
Verse 3
Placed on a reservation he’ll learn to wield a plow.
He’s broken and saddened but he’ll always be proud.
Like the spirits that he worships his soul won’t ever die.
Like the big cat on the mountain like the eagle in the sky.
Bridge
The Apache people understand no man owns the land.
The great spirit of the ancients lived by nature’s plan.
Chorus
Geronimo the warrior, the last hope of the brave,
eludes the U.S. Calvary in between his raids.
He knows it’s all but over ;the ammunition’s gone.
He’ll be forced to surrender at first light of the dawn.
Has to live among the white eyes the rest of his days.
Geronimo the warrior, the last hope of the brave.
