Charlottes Web

V-1

I remember playing in the barn.
When I was just a kid..
Came across a black shiny spider.
I watched in amazement as she spun her web.
She had a red mark on her underside.
I never seen a spider quite like this..
Asked Grandpa what was it called..

Chorus

He said stay clear from Charlottes web
Stay clear from Charlottes web.
Stay clear from Charlottes web.
She'll eat you alive.
Her red mark is an hour glass.
And if it breaks She'll eat you alive.

V-2

I often wondered growing up..
If grandpa was right.
Or was he just pulling my leg.
I looked up to Grandpa in so many ways..
I thought he could calm the strongest storm.
I often wondered how he knew so much.
So smart grade five education.

Chorus

He said stay clear from Charlottes web
Stay clear from Charlottes web.
Stay clear from Charlottes web.
She'll eat you alive.
Her red mark is an hour glass.
And if it breaks She'll eat you alive.

I remember the widow next door.
When I was just a kid..
She always showed an interest to me.
I watched her as she sat in her rocking chair.
She had red hair and such a pretty face.
She always asked a lot about Grandpa.
Her name was Charlotte Webb.

He said stay clear from Charlotte Webb
Stay clear from Charlotte Webb
Stay clear from Charlotte Webb
She'll eat you alive.
Her red mark is an hour glass.
And if it breaks She'll eat you alive.

Outra

Grandpa and Charlotte got married.
They lived happy all their lives.
Charlotte became my Grandmother.
Grandpa and I were under her spell.
So glad he didn't stay clear from Charlotte Webb.

I like the central play on words. Very clever. I can't help feeling gently humorous songs like this benefit from a bit of clever rhyming. To use a seasonal metaphor, what you have here is a nicely shaped Christmas tree with no ornaments. 🙂
