Double Space Carriage Return

Apparently the "New Topic" edit screen and the "Add Reply" edit screen are designed so carriage returns always do a double space. Now, to get around that, you simply hold down the "shift" key when you press the carriage return, and it only single spaces. That works fine, when you're typing everything in by hand. BUT, when I copied the text from my Word document, which was single spaced, into a text box, all lines wound up double spaced. I had to back space each line, then do a carriage return while holding the shift key.

Is there a different way I should copy text from a "document" into a "New Topic" or "Add Reply"? Or, can you change the default carriage return to be only a single space?

Thanks,

phil

I don't think there's an easy solution to that, Phil. It has something to do with the way that Word interacts with Wordpress. If you paste from Notepad, it preserves the single spacing. I also tried copying from an email (I use Thunderbird) and it also preserved the spacing.

I guess the problem is that the format is not specifically designed for songs or poems with line breaks that don't mean a new paragraph. Thanks for the tip about the Shift key. I didn't know that.

Thanks for the update! Next time I need to copy, I'll try using Notepad.
