This is a video on a song I wrote several years back called TOO MUCH BLOOD IN MY ALCOHOL LEVEL. It was written by myself and hit writer WOOD NEWTON, who produced this effort on David. David is one of the best by God country singers on earth and has had huge hits with RIDING WITH PRIVATE MALONE, and THINKING PROBLEM in the 90's and 2000's.
The song was very different than we wrote it, as I was in a "HANK WILLIAMS JR, phase in my own songs" but David is a much more traditional country singer. Both turned out quite well and are one of my most requested songs when I play live.
Someone posted this video recently so I have been sharing it on social media. It speaks to a couple things in the music business:
#1. Write with a well connected producer if you want a cut.
#2. Run with the right people.
#3. Don't give up.
#4. Most of the things that happen to effect a song's success or failure have nothing to do with anything you do. A few months after this video was done and the single was climbing the charts, the owner of the record label died due to Cancer, and the label folded.
Just another part of life in the Music biz. Hope you like it. Comments are always welcomed.

I had heard the song before, but really enjoyed this. The video is great - can't fail to make you smile. For me, the strongest part of this song is the hook. You're still singing it after the song ends. In the future, if anyone were to ask me, "Remember that song about too much blood in some guy's alcohol," I think I would be able to say, "You mean this one?" and sing the hook.
I may or may not be an enigma

Thanks Gavin,
It's one of those funny things about being me. I tend to forget so many things that I have done, it is like an all new experience every day on social media when someone else posts videos, pictures, comments, etc. about songs I've written, performances I've done, etc. So it's all new stuff to me too. This video was done in 2003, when David Ball was starting out on a new phase of his career. David's one of those artists who has a HUGE career in Texas, South Carolina, Oklahoma, and other places where he has huge fan base but no major radio airplay.
His first hit song in the 90's "THINKING PROBLEM" was one of the most played songs of that year on a major label. But he had been known for decades before that in the honky tonks and bars around the country. Then he didn't have another hit for ten years when he had a song "RIDING WITH PRIVATE MALONE" (written by two of my friends Wood Newton, co-writer 0n this one, and THOM SHEPARD). It was a huge number one record right after the 9-11 attack and was number one for 6 weeks on an independent label. IT is the last number one record from an independent label.
This one was recorded about 10 years after we wrote it. The video was done a couple years after it was recorded and another independent label out of Texas, "WILDCATTER RECORDS" did it as a single for his "FREEWHEELER" CD. That was produced by Wood Newton (who has himself had five number ones) and came up with the hook. (Had overheard it said in a bar the night before our writing session.
The song was around the mid 60's on the charts, but doing huge in Texas and the West, even had line dances done to it. It was moving up and then all of a sudden the owner of the label had a massive heart attack, related to the Cancer that he had and he died. At that point, the label folded and David just went to touring. The video was played on CMT and other videos and still gets played from time to time. I had forgotten about it till someone posted it on Facebook last week. That's when I reposted.
IT is like many things that happen to me. I do them then sort of forget about it. I recently got cuts on THE IDE'S OF MARCH, SHAUN MURPHY, and last week found out there are some more of my songs out there being involved in some development projects on new artists. So I continue to be talked about. And to top it all off, today I recieved a pretty decent royality check from ASCAP, for what I have NO IDEA. LOL! It just sort of runs in cycles.
So that is what it is like sometimes. Things just happen. Some good, some bad. But it all can be pretty fun when you have the right attitude.Expect nothing and be grateful for anything that happens. Thanks for the comments.
