A few days ago, Carroll Kiphen sent me his new song lyric “The Pretender” and while reading the lines I kind of heard a Latin rock tune in the back of my mind. Just a few hours later I recorded this song. I love the last part of the recording with all the guitars and horns. I hope you like it. Feedback is always appreciated.

THE PRETENDER
Verse
You pretend you’re sophisticated
But I know the old you
And you think that you’re educated
But I know your IQ
Pre chorus
We dropped out of high school
Went our separate ways
I stayed back here in Queens
And you moved to L.A.
Chorus
You surrendered your identity
You became, the pretender!
For a life of anonymity
You became, the great pretender!
Verse
You portray yourself as royalty
It’s true you come from Queens
That Boston accent is convincing
But you grew up with me
Pre chorus
You studied out on the street
Learned to imitate wealth
I found a job and I worked, while
You learned the art of stealth
Chorus
Bridge
You’re an actor on a stage
A mere charade
You’re a sly chameleon
A shadow of the girl you were back when
