The Park

Round and round the merry go round
the children run and play.
No one seems to have a care,
on this sunny day.

The air is filled with laughter
from the children in the park
till later in the evening
as it’s getting close to dark.
The kids begin the journey home
puppy dog in tow,
playing tag and running.
laughing as they go.

The puppy scampers up ahead
off into some trees
her little bodies lying there
panties at her knees.
Screams from the children
bring parents to the scene.
Among the first to come
are the ones of little Jean.

Her mommy can’t stop sobbing
and daddy wants his gun.
He vows someone’s gonna pay
and he will find the one.
days and nights come and go
with silence in the park.
The only one that’s out there
is the stranger in the dark.

He slides among the shadows
and back into the trees
a predator upon the ground
feeding his disease.
He finds the dainty locket,
a trophy from the kill,
something that he’s hid
to bring him back the thrill.

Suddenly he stands up straight
and quickly turns around 
as daddy points the gun
and squeezes off a round

and round the merry go round
the children run and play.
