What would Jesus do

Verse

Why am I on the news?

This ain’t no big deal.
What’s all the fuss about

Buying a man a meal?

Saw a man freezing cold

Gave him my overcoat.

Gave a blind man a ride

So he could cast his vote.

Pre chorus

This isn’t your big story.

The stories on the street.

Too many homeless people

With not enough to eat.

Chorus

I’m one man not army

But you can help me too.

Just ask yourself the question.

What would Jesus do?

Verse

Why put me on the news

For doing a good deed?

Why do you find it odd ?

I helped a man in need?

Saw a man out of work

Told him a place to go.

They gave him food and a bed

A temporary home.

Pre chorus

This isn’t your big story.

The stories on the street.

Too many homeless people

With not enough to eat.

Chorus

I’m one man not army

But you can help me too.

Just ask yourself the question.

What would Jesus do?

Bridge

It’s no great imposition

To help someone in need.

Might put me in good graces

When god looks down on me.

I really like the news angle! It got me thinking, what about a "holy crap, what's going on" story? Like, what if the headline was "Putin donates flower pots made from nuclear warheads to Iran" or "Clinton and Obama tour buses both explode in a firey crash at the bottom of the Grand Canyon".... 🙂

I really like this, Carroll. It's down-to-earth and not at all preachy. The message is a great one, simply told with strong imagery and very relatable. It has your usual easy, natural flow to it. I think people would like to hear this. Kudos.

I have absolutely no idea where the man in the hat is going with his Putin flower pots and Clinton conflagration LOL.

Great subject. These lyrics totally remind me of an incident in 2017 where a clearly doped up, mentally unwell person came up my drive asking me to help her get home. I bundled her in the car and drove her where she needed to be. When I told some friends, they thought I was absolutely nuts. One of these naysayers was a pastor -- said he'd never have done that, but would have waved her on her doped up way. Said I shouldn't have exposed myself in that way. Couldn't believe their lack of empathy. Couldn't believe their apathy. These lyrics reminded me of that.

One correction:

This isn’t your big story.
The story's on the street.
Too many homeless people
With not enough to eat.
