So, after 10 months I've finally powered up some of my old gear in my new place.... I need someone to tell me if I'm actually hearing things differently now or it's just my imagination. Just have a listen and tell me if the mix/Eq is ok ?

Hey Tony. The bass drum is overpowering the song in the first 45 seconds then it seems to be ok until about 1:23 when it goes back to a bit too much. 1:58 good again. 2:29ish back to booming.

It may be the bass drum tone that isn't working for me. To my ear it doesn't seem to thud clearly.

Cool song. The rest of the mix sounds good to me.

Hmmm... That’s actually what I was afraid of, I'm trying to hear the bass on a smaller system now. I thought it would actually help limit the bass since the smaller speakers are easier to overpower, but I guess not. Thanks John

Soundcheck Ya'll! Please have a listen... Compare if you like. I really am trying to fine tune my little system now so I can just plug-n-play.

I think that bass drum sounds way better. It's a crisper thud. The only thing I would do and this is probably personal preference, would be to lower the volume of the drums and the bass guitar. They dominate the song, which can be good but the vocals and guitar are just a tad lower in the mix than I would normally like. If you really want to make the bass guitar stand out then I would lower it and the drums for the entire song, but then pick the sweet spots in the bass line where you're slapping a few notes here and there, usually right between vocal lines or in transitions between verse and choruse, or whatever...just take those bass bits and raise the volume of them to make them stand out more. It's a little painstaking but usually works.

Yea, that's always a problem for me for some reason lol.... I don't like to hear the drums, I like to FEEL THEM!!  🙂

Thanks John!

Like you, I like to feel the drums in my guts too, but when I turn this one up it is a bit heavy on the snare imo. But the bass. Yum. I'd keep it forward myself. Love a good bass guitar. I like the idea of bringing it out in key spots, as John says, but also think it should be present throughout. Main vocal needs to come forward too.

That's all personal preference, of course.   🙂

OK, lol.... If you guys don’t mind, let’s try starting over from scratch. Here’s a quick, plug-n-play, bass/drums loop. Please have a listen and tell me which way to go ?

Ditto. The toms might need to come down a bit when you add stuff to it, but as is, yup, the sex is good.

Niice. Your bass is nice n' meaty. Love that.

No effects? Really? That later guitar (about 3 mins in) sounds great!
