Huge apologies to all for the problems that crippled posting and messaging functions. These problems were caused by the hosting company I have used for almost twenty years. I finally gave up waiting for them to fix the problems (which would probably reoccur at some future date anyway) and moved everything over to a new host. Everything should be working as before, although you might notice that pages load faster. There are also some improvements in the background to do with security, although you won't notice these.

I will be private messaging everyone to apologize and let them know that the forum is back in action.

Thanks Piq. The most frustrating thing was that I wasn't even able to post anything here saying that I was working on the problem.

What's weird is the site won't open on Chrome, says "Not Found" but opens in Firefox.  Same computer.

You might have to empty the cache in Chrome. It is probably trying to load from the old server because that address is cached. I don't have Chrome to test it out, but I experienced the same kind of thing in Firefox for a moment until I emptied the cache.

I did clear the cache and it still was wonky.  But right after I made that post it came up in Chrome again.  The internets be weird sometimes.

Yes, I think it sometimes takes some time for DNS caches out there to get refreshed or something like that. It can be a bit wonky for a day or so after a change like this, I'm told.

I wish it were as simple as that! Anyway, I think it's all OK now. As soon as the transfer to the new host was made, everything immediately worked as it should. On the plus side, I learned a lot in the process 🙂

You know, I'm sure there's many here who would lend you a hand Gavin, myself included. Just putting that out there. If this project ever stops being fun please speak up! Or, if you ever just need to vent LOL, feel free ?
