July 2019

Neil Cotton is in the spotlight this month with “Canadian Bakin,” a fun song about Canadians heading south for the winter. Be sure to check out his other songs at YouTube or on Spotify and all the other usual places.

June 2019

In the spotlight this month is “Now I Know” from Martin Lide, The Sunset Poet of Texas. It’s part of a remarkable seven part song cycle nearing completion, but it stands on its own as a beautiful and deeply moving song. Outstanding production by Michael Zaneski too. This is really special.

Here at Songwriter Junction, we pride ourselves on our international membership. Last time we checked we had members in eleven countries. And they don’t come much more international than Mora Amora La Loba. Living in Madrid, Mora creates songs and videos in Spanish, French and English to the brilliant accompaniment of her partner Marcus Nalgaber. It’s hard to choose a video to spotlight, but this seems like a good introduction to her work. An English translation is provided below.

Where Dreams are Thrown - Mora Amora La Loba with Marcus Nalgaber

These days,

every time,
every time
every time
that I look at you
I wonder
if you see me
where the shadow of your sadness
holds me hidden

where the shadow of your sadness
holds me hidden

These days

every time
every time
every time
that I’m looking for your eyes
I find them lost
there
where dreams are thrown

I find them lost
there
where dreams are thrown

under the mist of the rain

And I touch your hand
to feel your skin
and find
the one I love

but you are not here
and my presence
becomes so pale
like the smoke
escaping
from your cigarrette

like the smoke
escaping
from your cigarrette

These days

Our very first spotlight was this collaboration between two of our members, the velvet-voiced Jenny Stokes and the sandpaper voiced Gavin, who wrote the song, but thankfully leaves the singing to Jenny.
