It was not always a question
Wether to believe
Despite my limitation
Or what I can perceive
I feel so removed
It’s a blessing and a curse
God can’t be improved
But I could do much worse
Still, I am not satisfied…..
For love of His creation
God paid the full price
Conquered hell and damnation
With just one sacrifice
What more should I expect
Of divine perfection
Lord forgive my intellect
And my love for distraction
Still, I am not satisfied…..
It was not always a question
Wether to believe
Despite my limitation
Or what I can perceive
All is as it was
And will be as foretold
Oh, but to know
Like those saints of old
Oh, what a blessing
To be made in His image…..
Still, I am not satisfied…..

Liking this one!

I like it too. As you know, I'm not very religious but I do appreciate sincerity in religious songs and that's what I get here. I'm a bit uneasy with the line, "Lord forgive my intellect." Why do you need forgiveness for something God gave you?

Hmmmm........ Failed again.
Lol.... I know what I was writing about but I don’t think it’s getting across. It's not about losing faith... It’s about how, at a core fundamental level, I'm still human despite faith. A common misconception among "religious types" is that dutiful, regimented, disciplined faith... and a new suit... will make you perfect and worthy. I generally find that kind of faith... or attitude... just makes you a hypocrite. I try to be penitent, not perfect.... and I still fail ?

I get what you're saying, Tony. It's just that one line that gets me. The idea that in order to be close to God you have to renounce your intellect, or at least apologize for it. If we are made in God's image, then doesn't that include our capacity for reason? I don't think you mean to suggest that we have to be dumb to believe or that thinking deeply devalues faith. Or maybe I'm misreading it and what you mean is that it is the quality of your intellect that needs forgiveness, that, in your humility, you know that you don't have the smarts it would take to understand God more deeply?

You're right to say that our intellect is a gift, in fact it's a small portion of God's own intellect. However, just like everything else in life, it’s what we do with it that matters. Mankind’s history indicates that we have an inexhaustible capacity for intellectualizing everything in order to justify anything. We even apply our intellect to God's word instead of taking it at face value.... That’s the problem with God's word, our limited intellect turns it into "religion".

Hola @JAPOV
I think that the human being is always divided, light and shadow, like space, I also think that I am grateful to those who have made us that way, keeping the animal with its basic instinct of the nobility of living beating between the questions that will never have an answer.
Beautiful lyrics.
The bad part of the doubt is that it has no face
"Beating between the questions that will never have an answer...."
Ha! The meaning of life! ?
