Do you mean, "Blacker than blue," or is the "then" intentional? That affects how I read this.
This starts out looking like it's going to be another of those "poor me" songs, but then verse 3 really changes it in a clever way. I still might look for a way to replace the "I have felt so much pain" line with something fresher and more original.
I also like the bridge. Lists like this are fun to sing.
